PAMELA SACKETT PERFORMS SAVING THE WORLD SOLO & SONG

Seattle, Washington -- On Thursday, May 18, 7 PM at Antioch University, Seattle (2326 6th Avenue, Room 100), author/songstress Pamela Sackett will perform her new show Saving The World Solo & Song: a musical memoir for emotion literacy explorers. Pamela will be accompanied by guitarist Barry Pollack who performed with or opened shows for Ray Charles, Jeff Beck, Seattle Symphony, Joffrey Ballet, Portland Opera Company, Mikael Baryshnikov. Mr. Pollack will perform a short concert of classical guitar music at the beginning of the program.

Free admission; tips graciously accepted.

The show weaves together narrative from Sackett's recent book, Saving The World Solo, with original songs. Drawing from a mix of self parody, catchy tunes, punch lines, guitar riffs and shameless sincerity, Saving The World Solo & Song addresses themes of vulnerability, identity, unconscious contracts, inner authority, empathy, scrutiny from above, scrutiny from below, double-talk, body-dodging, the power of language, the plight of the individual, fears--imagined and real--pleas for a more humane, playful self and world.

Saving The World Solo & Song vibrates with the energy of an idealistic soul spinning through life's chaotic quandaries to construct a penetrating vision for hope and humility. Attendees will discover a new and novel voice, resonating with the ring of truth and the nuance of poetry, yet with the immediate accessibility of personal story.

"One performance in particular grabbed my brain and my heart, shook my body with laughter and chills, and has left an indelible mark on me ever since. That performance was by Pamela Sackett, reading pieces of her latest work entitled Saving The World Solo." Excerpted from the introduction to Saving The World Solo by Dana Gold, Director of the Center on Corporations, Law & Society at Seattle University School of Law. The complete introduction is available on the web at www.savingtheworldsolo.com.

This performance is co-sponsored by Emotion Literacy Advocates (ELA), a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization comprised of a group of generative artists and social activists in Seattle who came together at the turn of the millennium to further ELA's mission: to create learning forums for insight into emotion through language and the arts. ELA offers catalysts for thinking in new ways through books, graphics, theatrical scripts, public events, web presence and recorded media. ELA's communication tools benefit whole communities by guiding individuals toward the kind of freedom required to clearly and fully communicate with oneself and others. ELA's flagship product is ELSOTA! (Emotion Literacy School ON THE AIR), a compact disk with 16 page study guide that has been incorporated into Seattle Public Schools health education curriculum, and aired on public affairs radio programs.
